25-06 powder recommendations

I just recently purchased a nice used Remington 40-XB in 25-06 with a 27" barrel, 1/10 twist . I was hoping the nice people on this great forum could offer some opinions on powder choices. I plan on experimenting with Sierra 100gr matchkings and Berger 115 gr VLD's.

Give RL-19 and/or RL-22 a try with those 100SMKs. I switched to these powders from the old standby IMR-4350, which is still a good powder but my experiences with Reloder have been even better. The 100 Sierra is a great bullet I've shot over a thousand of them in 2 barrels, one improved and one standard.

In my experience, H-4350 works best with 100 grain and under. H-4831 is king with the 115 VLD's.

I use H4350 with the 100 grain bullets and Re25 with 110 grain Accubonds. I shot Re17 using VLD's but had a bad experience on a deer with VLD's so never shot any more. If you play with the seating depth the VLD's shoot pretty sweet.

With that long barrel I would try Retumbo and H1000. I use IMR and AA 4350 for accuracy with 117 Sierra Pro Hunters for deer hunting. I get 3000 fps which is plenty for my situation and 3/4" 5 shot groups at 300 yards. Rem 700 with 26" Shilen SS #6 barrel.

4350 and 4831SC are both old standby's for 25-06. I am liking Reloader 22 the more that I use it of late though. All good places to start though.

Thanks for all the input, I now have some IMR 4831 and Re 22 and will probably get some re19 or h-4350, looking forward to getting started.

For 110g or greater bullets, I think Retumbo is the magic powder. I get good accuracy at >3300 fps with 110g bullets and 3200 fps or so with 115-120 bullets. I use Fed 215M primers with the slow powders.

For 100g bullets, H1000 has been my best powder for both precision and velocity.

I shoot r22 right now and will be switching to r17 when all of my loaded ammo is shot up. i shoot 100 gr barnes at 3325 and r 17 shoots at 3425 and very accurate both powders are really good. We have a couple of 25-06ai that shoot over 3600 with the same bullet with reloder 17 and also shoot in the 2s

Just had an amazing shooting session with my 25-06 Ackley shooting 100 grain Ballistic Tips with H4350. It was my first set of test loads with H4350. Found a hummer load at 55.5 grains. Averaged 3496fps and a group of .263". ES was 9 with a SD of 5. I lost accuracy fast at 56.0 grains and above but was not at upper pressure limits yet. This is out of a Gordy Gritters sporter weight rifle with a 26 inch Kreiger barrel. I used to shoot RL 22 but couldn't find an accurate load above 3200fps with large velocity swings with temperature differences. Thanks to all of you who replied to this post. I probably would not have tried H4350 without your recommedations.
