25-06 brass??

I picked up a M77 25-06 and going to develop some reloads for it. I have 5 boxes of NOS Remington 100 gr SP ammo I picked up that will become available once I fire that ammo. Available brass are Nosler, Remington, and Hornady that I see. I also found some Norma but at a premium I would like to avoid. What is the best brass among these?

I have a bunch of Sierra 75 gr HP, 100 gr SP, and some older Nosler 115 gr partition bullets. Going to see what it likes. This will not high volume shooter. Planning for a future pronghorn trip.

Thanks, Tim

I have no love for Nosler brass. I find it far from premium and very costly. As funny as it may sound but in my 25/06 I've had great results and case life using Hornady brass. I have got up to 17 firings on one batch I recently had. I've also used Rem brass with good results. JMO

In my experience, you will get somewhat similar life expectancy from Nosler, Remington and Hornady. If you are keeping your headspace to a minimum and don't push them to "maximum" velocities, you will get a lot of firings from any of them.

I run Nosler in my 25-06 IMR 4350 and Nos Ballistic Tips 115 grain.
So far I have 100 cases with 7 firings and they are looking good.

I've always used and had excellent results with Remington brass in my 25.06 so that's what I've stayed with over the years. Life expectancy has been very good as well. I've been shooting a 25.06 for around 35yrs and it is no doubt my favorite caliber. My pet load is a Speer 120gr Hot-Cor in front of a full house of RL25 or RL22, both are very accurate with the 25 giving a little more velocity. Good luck and good choice in caliber, I'm sure you'll love it. Mike

I shot the barrel out of my last Rem 700 using 100 cases of Winchester brand, using a Forster Neck sizer to bump the shoulders on hot loads, never full length sized the cases for the life of the barrel, just trimmed to length and annealed every third firing. I shot 87g Speer Hot cores on deer with a magnificent load of R#19 and another Max load of IMR 4350, both at 3500 fps+.

What do you plan on using for powder in the 25-06? Years ago many used Accurate 3100, and I have heard it called Pixie Dust when used in a 25-06. I have about a pound and a half left but after the barrel was changed it never shot as good as the original. I am not sure if i just doesn't like 3100 or if it was gun smithed poorly. The accurate 3100 was made by lovex and is their SR71. The same powder but with the makers label instead of Accurate. I tried 4831 and it shoots OK as it does with the 3100 just not like it did before. I have been shooting 115 BTs like Outwest, so maybe IMR 4350 will be my next try.

In any 25/06 that I have ever had, the 117 gr Sierra and IMR 4831 have been a good combo in terms of both accuracy and velocity. JMO

I will start with H4350 for the 100s, and 115s. I have good supply of it. Likewise with Varget and IMR4831. I also have RE-19 and -22 to try if needed. However I am a fan of Lincoln Logs (what I grew calling 4350) so it is usually my first go to. Tim

H4831 SC with 85 & 100 gr NBT is a very accurate round out of my 26/06. Also, it shot the Hornady 75 gr VMax and 100 gr Sierra very well also. The Sierra 90 gr HP did not shoot good at all. Great Round.
