25-06 1000 yards, Is it possible

I have always loved the 25-06 round and use it to hunt with.
I have always been told that the round cannot be accurate past 400-500 yards.
I have invested a considerable amount to find out and have recently received my new 25-06 in a REM 700. Broughton Barrel built by American Patriot Arms in Georgia.
After the load development and certifications were complete it came with a .18 moa.
Using a Berger VLD 115 grn, shooting off a Harris Bipod and an MOA Systems shooting bag.

I have yet to take the rifle out and put myself to the test but look forward to reaching out there.
Any constructive advice from other 25 shooters would be welcome.

I currently own two 25-06s and one 25-06AI. The only downside, IMO, is bullet selection. Don't get me wrong, I am very satisfied with the 115VLD but the selection like there is for the 6/6.5/284/30 cal bullets doesn't exist.
The only sport that I casually compete in is mid-range prone and I have a 40X in 260 Rem for that. My 25s are strictly longer range varmint and deer rifles.
It sounds like you have one heck of a good shooting rifle there. I'm sure that the 25-06 and VLD will suit you just fine.
Did the company provide load data?
My only advice is not to feel limited by caliber choice because you aren't!

I've shot 10" groups w/ scores in the mid 90s all in the black w/ a 25/06 (10 shots). The load was fifty some grs H4831sc (I guess we are not suppose to give the exact amount of powder), w-w case (270 necked down and shortened), fed 210M primer w/ 108 gr JLK bullets seated into the lands. It only drops about 234" from a 100 yd zero. The old Hart barrel has a lot of rounds thru it and probably would do even better, plus I only use an 16x scope (groundhog gun) but I'm happy with that. Try those bullets they really shoot, I think Berger is discontinuing your 115. Follow the bullet down to the target and you will be amazed at the speed and trajectory.

Shot a few gongs at 1,000 yards with 25's in 25-06 and 257 Roberts. Berger's never shot for me in anything. But, give me some Nosler Ballistic Tips or Sierra BT's and watch out.

You can have fun with those bullets at 1,000.

years ago I made a 25-284 and it was a fine shooter. Almost an exact double to the 25-06. It could reach out a long ways, so should yours! Good shooting, Gary

I have been shooting a 25-06 in VBR from 850 to 1000yds for 2 years in 12lb. class. I also use the 115gr Berger VLD target bullet, 48.5gr IMR 4350, Br2 primers, velocity 3125fps. Look at the Berger sight and plug in the velocity, I was happy with the results of wind drift and drop. Round count is 1343 through a cryoed stock Savage 26" stainless varmint barrel still competitive but I don't think it will make a complete season next year.

Fill me in on Berger discontinuing the 115 gr. VLD in 25 cal. I'm doing a build in 25-06 and the 115 Berger VLD was going to be my bullet to chamber for.

They are discontinuing the 115g Target VLDs, but not the hunting VLDs is my understanding.

Thanks for the reply!

The bc is about 5 on the 108 jlk, the Berger is in the 4s somewhere. I think Swampy only makes one run a year on the 108s. I forgot the velocity but it was over 3200 fps. Measuring the bearing surface, lengths o'all and base to orgive and weights are fun because they are so good.

Correct: Web page says PN 25413 115gr Match grade VLD Target will be discontinued. While PN 25513 115gr Match Grade VLD Hunting will remain in production.
