Condensation acurs when you bring the cold item into the warm inviornment. There are ways to avoid this. Our M/L season is the first week of January, my rifle never rides in the truck with me, it goes in the case in the back of the truck, and into the detached unheated garage once it spends the day inside.I read years ago that condensation from warm camp house to cold outside, can freeze. real advanced gunsmithing level stuff. not sure if this is true or not, but it sounded good to me.
I use top end Canon 1D xxxx digital photo gear, I shoot them in below zero weather all day, they go in a cold garbage bag, after being wrapped in a towel that is same temp as the outside. This allows the camera to acclimate to the warmer Temps when brought in slowly, and eliminates any issue with condensation. You don't take dumb chances with a camera body that was over 5K new.
But from a 70 degree house to below zero hunting is not a problem, as long as once its taken out, it stays out, then some understanding and common sense is needed once you intend to introduce it back into the warm enviornment, that means slowly, taken back to the warm temp, this is what causes condensation
Sadly M/L season in January is no longer a problem here, this is how we brought in the New Year today on Southern Michigan!

Ya, fly fishing,,,, in the past my response to someone telling me they were fly fishing on their favorite lake in Michigan,, on NEW YEARS DAY, would been right, good freakin luck! Sadly today it's a reality! Been this way Fer 4 of the past 5 years, and getting worse every year! So much for dealing with the cold in Southern MI. or Northern OH. anymore.
