243win and 80gr bergers

I'm wondering what your experiences with this combo has been and what loads have worked the best for you. I'm wanting a coyote/target load and this was the only bullet available at the time. Only powder on hand here was H380 and I have H4831SC for my 270. I could probably order some 4350 (IMR or H?) if need be, but would like to try what I have first unless it's just grossly wrong.

Any and all advice is appreciated.

Chris

I have used H380 in 243W with 80-100gr bullets and it was good combination. It was a long time ago and I was pretty new so I can't say much more than that.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I'll try the H380 for starters and see if it gives me something I can live with for a while. If not, looks like I'll have to try some H4350.

Shootsanything: Have you shot the bergers on game or just paper? 0.2" at 200 is impressive to say the least. I'll be thrilled if I can do 0.5" at 100.

I have not tried the Bergers on game, but the 87gr SGK gave me great results on paper and game. Shot a deer, had a hard time finding the entry wound but the exit was golf ball sized at 330 yards.

I use IMR-3031, 37.3 gr, with the 80 gr seated ~ 2.82 oal or about 2.36 to the ogive, & Fed 215 primers. Runs about 3200 fps in my Rem 700

I ran out of H4350, and decided to try H4831sc, recommended by a friend. Now I am using the H4831sc with 87 gr Hornady V-Maxs in my .243 Win (1 in 10" twist) shooting better groups than the H4350 shot. I kept loading up in 3/10ths of a grain increments till I found the sweet spot. I am averaging 3280 fps in a 23.5" bbl. I see no reason to go back to H4350.

GMAN - I am going to have to give that a try. Funny thing with my gun - more than 43gr of 4350 and the 80gr bergers do not shoot, but I can load the 87gr SMK even hotter and the groups do not deterorate - never as good as the Bergers to start (best was about .3 at 100yards, ave is probably .5) but since that bullet was chosen for coyote and deer I really did not care too much.

Gman, I'm going to have to look into that too. I'm glad you posted because I'd not heard a lot of info on 4831.
