243AI Powder Burn Rate for Fire Forming

Hello All, I bought Hapnin's Lawton 243AI and he was not kidding you when he said it is a tack driver with 105's and 107's. I got the dies and recipes from him on loads and loads for fire forming but, I have some stuff laying around that I would like to use up before buying more. I have 2 boxes of 70grn Sierra Match along with BLC2 and Varget. I have a new Blue Box of Lapua 243WIN brass that I would like to fire form. Which powder should I use I have a 28" barrel. I know that with the 105's and 107's H4831SC is its choice but I can't use it in 243WIN. Any advice would be appreciated. LT-

Varget would work for you. It's not a powder I used in my 243 AI, but going by the manuals, it's an option. I liked the 70gr SMKs in my Ackley.

I run Varget with my 14tw .243AI and the 70's. I am concerned about your barrel fire-forming with the light weights though. I have no choice and actually can hunt with my fire-forming loads. Perhaps yours will be accurate also. Actually heard of somebody shooting FF's at a match! JMHO

See an earlier thread and my success with a fire forming load - http://forum.accurateshooter.com/index.php?topic=3827385.msg36296742#msg36296742
I'm happy to shoot in competition too with a fire forming load.

Texas Marine,,,who says you cant use 4831 in a .243 win,,,,I have used a bunch of it with big bullets (105 +/-) and 8 twist ,,,,,I would just use a stout .243 load and fire form away,,,Roger

After further review expiper is correct in that I can use H4831. I guess I was working to hard to save money in the fire forming process. I'll load some H4831SC and some 107 SMK's and see how see does. Thanks for all the advice. LT-
