.243 WSSM

Hey Everyone, does anyone have any experience with the .243wssm as far as reloading for accuracy? I have done some experimenting with it but need some other input on what is working\what is'nt. Especially for 55grNBT's and 68grBergers, any load data?

Thanks, Andy

Well nobody's replied yet. Here's what we're hearing about the .243 WSSM. First, the brass is somewhat hard to come by and it's very thick. The case is truly over bore for a 6mm, but necked up it holds promise with the 140gr range 6.5mm bullets. There are some guys in New Mexico who've done well in 1000-yard matches with a 6.5-WSSM.

Personally, if you want something with more punch than a 6XC, I'd go with a .243 AI. You can get good Lapua and Norma brass. Uses a standard .308 bolt face. The next step after that is a 6.5-284 and we all now how well they shoot.

hey everyone, i'm new, but is it my understanding that most bench shooters don't like the 243 wssm? i was actually interested in building one, but it seems to me from what ya'll are saying that it's not worth the trouble.

I like mine,I shot in a 600 yard match this weekend and did very well with it .I shot at 1k too but had brain fade there

I think that if I were to build another wssm it would be a 6.5 again. They shoot rather well with the 140, and 130 berger vld's and get good velocities. The problem I think that most people have is the necks are so thick that you have to load them pretty hot to get the necks to seal in the chamber. I don't think that you can push a 6mm as fast as you can push a heavier 6.5 because you can't get the pressure out of the case.
Best of luck and God bless,
