243 WSSM

I have a chance to buy a Cooper Model 16 in 243 WSSM but hesitate as I have heard very little praise of the cartridge. Should I pass or snatch it up? Looking for a long range coyote gun and had settled on a 6mm Reminton until I found this rifle. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Tom

I have one in a browning a-bolt the barrel was shot out at 558 rounds, the cases are hard to resize and its not that accurate....Plus the gun just sets now cause the bolt face is useless to any other cartridge that I'm interested in...

In factory offerings they are bad. the necks are .034 thick and the throat is terrible.
If you turn the necks down to .012-.014 thick and have a chamber built to fit the load you want to use they can be accurate. If used in a SA the throat can be quiet long, in a AR it must be kept short and really the neck of the case should be shortened to 1.60 like the ARSMs so longer high BC bullets can be used at mag length.
