243 wssm info needed

Having more reloading skill than computer skills I would appreciate any help I could get on loading for the 243wssm. I have looked at all the posts I can find but still could use some help. The rifle is a very little used A-Bolt. I would like to use it for a deer/coyote rifle to not more than 300 yds. I do not want to start a thread on why other rifle, cartridge combinations would be better as I have others that I know would do as good or better at a great deal more distance. With this in mind any bullet, powder, primer combinations, that you have used successfully would be a big help & give me a starting point. Unlike many who seem to want this forum to do all the work for them on a load I take great pleasure in mundane practices such as ladder tests, seating depth tests, neck tension changes and all the rest. Thank You & Happy Shooting

Mine liked RL 15 and 80 gr. flat based bullets. It would shoot 3/8" at 100 yards.

Thank you for your reply. Looks like maybe I should try some of the Sierra 85gr game kings I have with the RL 15. Have had good luck with the Fed 210 M & RL 15. Have had good luck with the GK bullets in several of my other 6mm guns. Thanks again.

A suggestion for you, buy a expander die& 6 mm mandrel. On my wssm's if
You don't do this you get way to much
neck tension.

H-4831 / H-4831sc will guarantee accuracy with 80 to 100 grainers.

85 gr Sierra BTHP Gameking (# 1530 ) would do good for both yotes and venison.

Around 47 gr of H-4831sc with that 85 gr Sierra should make small groups. Work up from 46 gr to be safe.

47 gr is a mild load around 3,250 fps,.. but you never know cause of many variables.

Thanks Zero I have those powders & bullets & will give that a try also. I have used the Sierra 85gr bullets & taken dear at ranges of more than 240 yards in my .243 & yotes at around 350. Have always liked that bullet as it has done the job for me. Saying that, it needs placement and not just slung in the general direction as many wish to do. I LIKE PLACEMENT.

Varget did real good in my .25Wizzer, with both 75 & 100 gr boolits. I suspect it might be worth a look in your .243?
I did note that going with a slightly faster burn rate powder helped seal off the chamber & prevent sooty cases on that thick azz brass. Slower powders I tried shot well, too...but man did they make a mess. Hence, opting to run with Varget...;)

Good luck!

I'm using Varget with 95gr Sierra HPBT match bullets, CCI BR-2 primers, and Hornady brass - the load is super accurate. 243 wssm AR-15 with Shilen select match barrel.

Thanks to all. I will have a fine time trying all that you folks have shared. I may buy a new barrel to have on hand as I may be able to wear this one out before I quit playing with it. Not really, but thanks for your sharing.
