243 to 7mm-08????

what do i need to do to change in my savage model 10fcp? new barrel? head space gage? barrel nut wrench? barrel vice? dies? can i reform my 243 brass? everything is same besides neck right? thinking about switching them out in the near future. 7mm-08 looks like the ultimate all arounder. speed, energy, barrel life. any input would be greatly appreciated.

Your best bet is to do several search's on; HEAD SPACING, CHANGING SAVAGE BARRELS, ect.
I use 243 brass when I can find 1X for sale to make 7-08. I use a tapered expander plug .222-.284 that are normally found in 7 TCU die sets to open the mouth up to .284.

When it was on sale @ Midway I bought the ER shaw barrel kit (barrel, nut wrench, go & no-go gages) for my daughters Mod 11 and the Wheeler #2 action wrench. The barrel nut & barrel came out very easy and is shown on several 'youtube' videos.

I used a FL-sized case and the gages to see what the difference is when setting headspace - some posts indicated the brass could/would be crushed and give a false headspacing but if the threads are clean, you will have good 'feel'. I have survived pulling the trigger and my daughter has shot a few rounds thru it without the cases coming apart or any injury.

http://savageshooters.com/SavageForum/index.php?board=64.0 is a good source of barrels and other Savage-related stuff. I've necked 243 brass up to 264 and can imagine 284 would be just as easy but annealing the necks would probably be a good idea first - plenty of 'youtube' videos on that also.
