.243 Ruger No.1

Folks,
Is anyone shooting a Ruger No.1 in .243?
Is so what kind of accuracy are you getting with what bullet / powder combo?
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

My brother has one that I did some load development on for him. The best were;
58 V-ZMax, 41.6 Rel 15, Fed 210m primers, Federal brass (sorry - didn't record velocity - so work up) 1/4" MOA
same load, but with 40.2 grns N140 was pretty decent, too. Around 3/8" MOA

Probably the next best powder I used was IMR 4064 (Best with Speer 85 grn s.p.)
Other powders tried were Varget, IMR 4350, Win 760, IMR4985, RL 19, IMR4831 and H322 - all ho-hum in that rig.
With all light bullets - nothing close to the Alliant Reloader 15.

Nothing was crimped (used about .003" bushing reduction). Brass was neck-turned - but was because I used .308 brass that I converted to .243 when no .243 could be found.

Good luck and Semper Fi to you as well!

I had a Ruger 1 in 303 Brit. I don't have much of a neck so I was never able to get a decent eye relief due to the design. I told that story so I could say, Semper Fidelis! :)

My 243 Ruger No 1 is a 9" twist. I settled on 95 grain Berger Classic Hunters with H4350 and Federal 210s. Averages around .75 moa 5 shot groups providing I take time between shots to keep the barrel from getting too hot.

I used 100 grain spbt Sierra seconds for a long time for my deer load. I was using (I think) Hodgden 450 powder, but ran out and it is no longer made. The data said I should be getting close to 2900fps and it would give a 1.5 inch group, sometimes one inch. Killed a boat load of deer with that.

More important, #1's suffer from harmonic issues. Those spring vibrations under the forearm do nothing for accuracy. I've loaded for a few. and some shot decent others needed a Hicks tuner to straighten them out. All depends on what kind of accuracy you are looking for.
