.243 Rechamber

What would be the advantage of having a Shilen 10 twist .243 barrel rechambered to 6BR ? Is there a big difference in felt recoil ? Just shooting for the fun.

possum1: I did just that a few years ago with a Savage mdl 12BVSS, factory chambered in 243. At 400 rounds fired, saw the beginning of serious firecracking in front of the chamber mouth, had the barrel set-back (lost 1", from 26" to 25") and rechambered with my reamer to 6BR. What do you gain? A big jump in accuracy. That barrel will hold close to 1/2 moa with 5 shot groups. The 243 was good for slightly under moa. And, a lot longer barrel life. My highest round count 6BR, with a Hart 1-8 twist has a documented 1738 rounds fired and just checked it the other day with my Hawkeye borescope, and there is not the slightest trace of firecracking. Two previous 243 barrels, ( a Douglas & a Shilen) were both toast at 1400 & 1450 rounds. Regarding felt recoil: for me, just a little less without as much torque/twisting during recoil. ;)
