243 or 243AI

I have a ruger #1 with a Douglas barrel chambered in 6ppc. I have some other ppc's and I'm thinking of re chambering the barrel into either a 243 or 243AI. I will have to check the twist but it is probably a 1:14. so I am thinking I cam probably get away with 70 to 80 grain bullets. I would appreciate any input or other ideas for this project due to the twist. I will put twist info at a later date. Thanks in advance.

Just depends on the guns future use. Won't gain really much using it as a slow twist shooting light for caliber bullets cutting it to the AI chamber. Sure you'll gain velocity but may not be much needed velocity in that instance. In a faster twist barrel, the Ackley may shine a bit more due to the need to push higher bc bullets at longer ranges. To each there own really. Nothing wrong with pushing a 60-70 grain bullet nearly 4000 fps. Results will be very explosive for sure.

Another option is I have a heavy varmint 6BRA I could make into the 243AI would just have to turn the barrel down to a smaller dia.

PPC barrels are usually short. I made a 243 out of a 22" PPC barrel I had on hand some years ago, that barrel was very accurate, but also very loud.

I made 6 br's our of my extra 6 PPC take off's, and shot the 55-65g bullets in the 3550-3650 area.

If that's the factory barrel and chambering, the barrel should be 24" long.

I have a heavy varmint 6BRA I could make into the 243AI 8 twist but its going to have to open channel for the heaver barrel dia. but thinking it may be my best option as of now

Who did your barrel fitting to the Ruger 1? Sorry for the side track.

I was on Kenny Jarrets website and remember him praising the 243Ai in a 20" 12 twist tube.
I have love for the Vanilla 243 but an ackley is like adding a 3rd boob on the back for dancing!

LOL a 3rd boob is always a plus. I have no idea who did the barrel fitting to the Ruger 1. I purchased it that way. .262 neck shoots so so never did much with it like I say I have other ppc's

Ive had a few 243ai. The regular version feeds like butter (i know it doesnt matter to your application) and will push every bullet i know of faster than the accuracy will keep up with.
