.243 Load

Need advise on load for .243.
Have lots of 58;65;68 gr 6mm bullets.
Have Varget;4350;4895 powder. Rifle is 700 vs with 9 twist. Thanks

Yrs past used a lot of 4895 with 70 gr bullets and great accuracy. Worked in every rifle we tried it in. Ran around 40-41 grs depending on particular rifle. Guessing Varget would perform well there too with possibly a 1 - 1.5 gr powder charge increase. Your 68 s should be real clear SE to a 70 trainer.

.243 Win is one of my favorite cartridges. I use IMR 4064 with bullets less than 100 grains and H4831SC with bullets over 100 grains.

Been shooting this caliber since the late 60's. Currently have 4 of them - just love them.

All the powders you listed will work with the light weight bullets you've listed but Varget and H4895 might work better with these light bullets. 4350 is better suited with bullets 85 grains and heavier.

The lightest I've ever gone with the 243 is the 70 grain bullets. Both Varget and 4895 worked very well with the 70 grain Nosler BT's. It's an excellent varmint load combo.

Another excellent powder for the 243 is IMR 4064, especially with bullet 85 grains and under. For purely varmints, the Sierra 80 grain Blitz is outstanding with IMR 4064 or Varget.

If you want the ultimate load for the 243, in my humble opinion, it's the 85 Sierra BTHP with either Varget, IMR 4064 or IMR 4350. This is an all purpose bullet and can be used for varmints, predators and deer. With deer kept the shots broadside behind the shoulder in the vitals - they will drop like a ton of bricks. This bullet shoots like a match bullet and has excellent terminal performance.
