243 Lapua brass necked down now want to neck back to 243?

Ok i originally started with Lapua brass for my 22-243 and had some issues with it. Now I want to neck it back up. Can I just run it through a regular hornady 243 win die and run it in a 243 gun? Or what would the process be for this?

I will assume you started with 243 Winchester cases, the 243 shoulder is 22 degree, the 22-243 shoulder is 30 degree. The length of the case body from the case head to the shoulder/case body juncture is the came for both cases.
By necking the case up the case should shorten.

Pretty sure the 22-243 is a straight neck down so shoulder angle is the same you must be thinking of the middlestead. Mines a straight neck down it’s a 22-243 win.

I am sure I did the research and found the shoulders for the two chambers were different. If it was a straight neck up and or down why did he have problems when necking down to 22, if the case body was the same length for both cases there is no way he could get the 30 degree die back far enough to size the shoulder when necking down.

He never explained why he was not happy with the neck down cases.

Don't worry Guffey, we all knew YOU weren't wrong.

I'd just try a few and see.

I've never annealed a case in my life, but if ever there was cause to, this may be it. ;) jd

Ok here’s the full story on this I’m using a Redding 243 fl type s bushing die for my 22-243. Anyways when I started loading it I had pressure issues on starting loads. With some help from people and the gunsmith I got the barrel from we come to the conclusion that Lapua brass was not going to work in my chamber. Now Lapua brass isn’t made to saami specs it’s made to European specs which are a little bigger if I remember right. And my chamber wasn’t big enough for the Lapua brass. Anyways I switch to Winchester brass and all my pressure issues went away. So now I want to resize this Lapua brass and either resell or use it in my cousins, dads or friends 243.

When my cases show signs of high pressure I reduce the powder. When I want to increase the time factor and reduce the pressure I reduce the length of the case from the shoulder of the case to the case head. And then there is that part about thick necks, I reduce the thickness of the case neck if the bullet is too tight in the neck of the chamber.

That’s the weird thing here my cases and primers weren’t really showing pressure signs was just getting hard bolt lift. To my findings the Lapua brass was to big for my chamber. The neck diameter wasn’t the issue either measured these and compared to the reamer print. Anyways back to the original thread what all should be done to neck these cases back to 243 from 224 they were a straight neck down no pushing shoulders no different shoulder angles. What’s the proper way to neck these back up just run them through a standard 243win die?
