.243 into .308?

can a gunsmith ream and re-rifle a remington 700 barreled action with a shilen contour #5 barrel into a .308 winchester.
the cartridges are the same, just the .243 necked down to 6mm.
is this feasible, appropriate, cost effective?
trying to save money and keep the better half a happy camper.

There is a company here in Australia that will re rifle a barrel to a larger calibre but it is the same price as having a new barrel fitted and the finish is not guarenteed to be as good as a new barrel.
If you are looking to save money look for gunsmiths that brake down remingtons for actions/ stocks get on ebay and you will probably find Rem new 308 barrels fairly well priced. All you will have to do is have it screwed in and head spaced.
