243 case gauges

hello
let me start by saying ive been visitor in the back round for a couple of years here and find this to a great site with lots of knowledge here

so for my 1st question
ive been looking for a case gauge for my 243 winchester remington 700
i prefer the dillon case gauges in stainless steel as i live on the water and have a constant battle with flash and rust
ive found the sheridan and whidden gauges all in stainless also
but none of them are in .243. the closest was .308 (the parent case)

what are your prefered case gauges?

Welcome,I would think the Dillon would be fine if your .243 is a stock rifle and no custom type chamber or a Wilson would do it as well.

I've used Wilson case gauges for many years and with some experience and following their directions precisely they can be used to "judge" the proper amount of full length sizing but will not precisely measure shoulder back. There is way to measure shoulder set back with this tool and a dial indicator setup but it's somewhat cumbersome.

The Hornady Head Space Tool will provide a more accurate way to measure shoulder set back and can be used for other calibers as well. You will need an accurate caliper also to use this tool. This is the one I'd buy if I were you since it's easy to use, precise, can be used for other calibers, and is not expensive considering it's versatility.

RCBS and Redding make a tool, caliber specific, to precisely measure shoulder set back but these are a bit expensive for my tastes (about $55 RCBS and $90 Redding).
