.243 barrel life

Hey guys,

Please excuse me if this subject has already been covered, I couldn't find any previous posts.

I am about to become the proud owner of a very nice older Sako Varmint in .243. Looks like the 6mmbr will be on hold for a bit longer, but at the price I'm getting the Sako for its well worth it.

My mates been shooting this rifle on the local varmint population with 65gr V-max's and at ranges out to 400 yards, he is literally vaporising them. I saw him shoot one bunny at 350 yards and there was quite literally a 20ft ball of red mist.

How erosive on throats is the .243? With a regular cleaning procedure and not getting the barrel too hot, how many rounds realistically am I looking at before the accuracy really goes south?

cheers,

Michael.

When I shot the .243 Winchester, I would average approx. 1,600 to 1,700 rounds before I would lose the gilt edged accuracy that the barrel would deliver before it would start opening up the groups.

Cordially,
Bob Blaine

My Ruger 77V went a least 3500 rounds before the throat started getting rough. It would still shoot 3/4 MOA or less.
