243 ackley vs 6 dasher

Looking at these two cartridges. What real world experience have you shooters had with these two. Mainly looking at the accuracy of both. This will be for target shooting to 1K.

I shoot both.
For paper targets to 1000 or pasture rats up to 800, Dasher all the way. Pasture rats beyond 8, 243AI with 112 Barnes match burners.

Agree. But, when u need to reach on out there the 243AI with the right twist will get it done with accuracy using the right bullet.

It depends on what you’re doing. For F Class the Dasher will get you higher scores and at least 3X’s the barrel life. The last 243 Ackley I barreled for client was badly shot out at about 800 rounds of F Class use and he shot better score with a BRX. This guy has 2 state championships so shooting better scores with the smaller case wasn’t an accident. For a toy the 243 Ackley is fine but if your goal is a particular discipline the Dasher will eat it alive.

Dasher has many up sides - less powder required, small rifle primers, shorter OAL, brass does not require fire forming, high quality brass is available, and longer barrel life to name just a few.....

I built many 243AI for 1K BR early on. Accuracy was pretty good but as been stated barrel life is short. 800-900 rounds. Probably twice that or more for a Dasher.

If you want a fast 6mm, I suggest leaving the 243AI and looking at the 6mm Creedmoor and the 6mmSLR - which is a 243 case with a longer neck and a 30 deg shoulder. Running on H4831SC it achieves 3000fps all day long with 105g projectiles . Barrel life is better that the AI.

IF, looking at Longer Ranges ( 800- 1,000 yds ), the 6 XC is NO Slouch either and HAS, "Good" Barrel Life.
I can Drive, the 107 gr SMK's, 2,950 to 3,000 FPS with, Sub 1/4 MOA, One Hole, Group's out of, My 24 inch Criterion Barrel. And the 6 XC, HAS enough case Capacity to Win with, Using the 115 DTAC's at, Long Range.

For high volume target shooting Id stick with the Dasher even though I love a big case 6mm. Accuracy wise I have never seen an inaccurate 243AI but the Dasher will serve you better for you intended use

For 600 yd comp, I use either a 6SLR or a BRX (same as a Dasher)depending on wind conditions.
1K my "go to" is a 7mm Shehane
My 243 AI is my varmint rifle slinging 105 Hornady v max bullet at 3,050+-

And I would recommend looking at 6X47Lapua. Gives almost the same performance as 243AI but seems a little easier to live with.

Dasher by 100%. Barrel Life alone is #1.
I did a .260 Improved once...... Shot well waste of time and barrel.
