243 20 in. barrel velocities?

I have a savage axis with a 20 in. barrel , with 9:25 twist. I don't have a chron, and was wondering
what the difference in velocity compared to a 22 in barrel ?

The only way to know for sure is to use a chronograph. As you are probably aware, in general, shorter barrels produce less velocity however this is not absolute and can vary depending on the individual rifle and powder used. For example, I have a Tikka 243, 22" barrel, that produces on the average about 75 ft/sec more than my Rem 700 243 with a longer, 24" barrel using the same load. Where as my Rem 7 243, 20" barrel, as you would expect produces, on average about 100 ft/sec less Rem 700, 24" barrel.

I primarily use IMR 4350 with my 243's because I obtain the best groups with this powder. However I've notice that the velocity spread between different length barrels to be significantly less using the faster, IMR 4895.

I have a Remington model 7 with a 20", 1:8, 5C, barrel. I am shooting a 90 grain Swift Scirocco 3,220fps.
Real accurate and very good whitetail medicine.
