22X47 Lapua

Was wondering if Anyone is Playing around with the 22X47 Lapua. Currently in Process of having Varmint gun Built. Have 28" 1-8 Barrel, was Planning on Shooting 65-80 Gr Bullets. Cartridge Design Looks favorable for Velocities in 3500-3300 with above Bullets Maybe? Sure Looks Interesting. Thanks for any Suggestions.

Boiler,

I am shaking one out right now. So far I have only tested the 50 gr. Bergers and Nosler ballistic tips with varget and RL 15 powder. The preliminary results are pretty intresting. With 36.5 gr of RL 15 I am getting right at 4000fps with the 50gr Ballistic Tips. The cases need sholder bumped after every second firing but the pressure seems very workable. I fired one case 10 times. The case strech was .001 with on noticeable change in the primer pocket. Most loads shoot between .200 and .500 eith a few over .500. I am leaving Friday for Montana so we will see how she perform on sod poodles. My shooting partner will be shooting a 6x47 so we will get a good side by side comparison

I want to emphasize that this is still a work in progress and I am not recommending this load in other guns.

I'll keep you posted

Thanks For the Help and Replies. There was some good Information on the Small Forum. From the people I Have Talked to It is Showing good Promise and the Velocities are in the Range that I was Hoping with 70-80 Gr Bullet Weights. Will Hopefully Be Somewhat Easier On Barrel than the 22-243 Combos I was Previously Looking at. Any More Input on the 22X47L Loading-Die Setup Would be Appreciated. I'm Set Up with 28" 1-8, For the People I Sent PM to, Thanks Again for There Courteous Help. Boiler

if you send a reamer print to Hornady they will make you a die set fairly reasonable. I have used Hornady for 5 sets of custom dies and they just as nice at RCBS or Redding without the ridiculous lead times and prices they both want.

Where do you go to get a 22/6.5 x 47 Lapua FL sizer die? Thanks much Ken

For a size die you should be able to use a Redding Type S full length size die in 6mm x47 Lapua with the appropriate bushing for the .22. You'll need to use the small decapping pin nut rather than the expander that comes with the die. For a seater, I'd have your gunsmith ream the sleeve from a .22-250 competition seater with the .22/6.5x47 reamer.
