22RF Ammo Availability

Don't know whether to call this humor or uh-oh, but just for kicks I went to Midway's web site earlier this evening and made my way to their 22RF ammo section, which ran to 10 pages, looking to see if anything interesting was on sale. The ONLY ammo I found through all 10 pages that wasn't listed as "out of stock" was CCI shot shells! You can't even purchase the dreaded Remington Thunderbird right now; even it is sold out.

I went into Palmetto State Armory Sunday. They had 22 LR Winchester hollow points for...........wait...........$9.95 a 50 round box and a limit of 1 per customer.

LOL I paid $11/box for Lapua Center-X last month. It's probably better quality than Winchester hollow points. Can I flip a case for $4k yet?

Not good here in eastern PA either, at least at the shops I frequent. My ammo of choice is CCI Standard Velocity. Close second is Federal Gold Metal Standard Velocity. Can't get either at the moment. Maybe this is the new normal.

Currently only shooting 22 revolvers. Was considering a Tikka T1x rifle but with the shortage of 22 ammo I've backed off, at least for awhile.

We are completely at the mercy of the manufacturers. Why are we so addicted to this stuff?

.22 LR match ammo is 1) by weight the most expensive combination of lead, powder and brass in all of rifle competition use; 2) the only match round we cannot even begin assemble ourselves despite being the simplest to manufacture; 3) multiples the cost for arguably exactly the same round as lesser grades; 4) singularly the lowest performing round in anyone’s battery.

It’s the only rifle/cartridge combo in existence that is forgiven for 1 inch groups in light breezes at 100 yards despite costing thousands.

Maybe it’s because we started out with it, and that simple image of a .22 got “imprinted” forever in the memories of the best shooting times had.

I can get the federal ultra match locally for $26.00 a box. its ridiculous. I was bale to find some old stock Eley club and bought the brick of 500 for 110.00. He was willing to sell me a case of 5000 Remington target SV loads for….wait for it…..$850.00. I passed.

Went to my ammo cabinet. 1000’s of my preferred ammo readily available.

Had enough of this BS last time and stocked up between scares.

Went to sportsmen warehouse in ronoake va. Yesterday. Not one round of any type of rimfire. Not one ounce oh any kind of powder. Not one kind of any type of primer.

There is more Lapua and Eley in the USA than ever before.
With Europe basically shutdown and the USA shooting an on going enterprise basically all production is headed across the pond.
What Eley and Lapua don’t have is a commercial retail box store supply chain. And I hope they never do. Then there will be a problem.
Lapua Biathlon Extreme I had never seen. But saw some at the Lapua test center. Asked about it and was told the stuff pretty much never makes it to the USA. The production run was bought out in Europe.

Its the same here in Phoenix, i knew it was bad when my normal spot was out of lapua. Wonder if I could buy from the testing center in mesa....

I ment to do this and I'm upset at myself for not stacking but I got 2 sweeeet .22s that made it impossible.

Earlier this week I bought a 5000 rd case of FGM std because it was the ONLY thing not out of stock. Sold out now.

What surprises me is this shortage includes high end match stuff. People are making ammo forts from Center-X and Midas+ now???

The question is, why? I read somewhere, that there are about 20 billion rimfire rounds, produced a year. That's a lot of ammo.

The manufacturers are producing it as fast as is possible. Material costs have not risen very much. Who is profiting by the price increases?

If the President is re-elected in November, the panic buying will stop and prices will eventually go down. But what happens if he looses?

It's the same with gunpowder.

At the rate I shoot, I have enough supplies to last me at least 5 years. I am 84 years old now. Yet, when I find something I use, I can't resist buying it, even at todays inflated prices. Just bought another brick of Eley Tenex even though I already have more than I will ever need.

I am my own worse enemy here. I contribute to the panic. I just can't resist the urge to increase supplies of what I use. I suspect, I am not alone.

Shortage of C-X and Midas???? Clint Swigert is loaded you can go broke just buying test lots. I'm sure Good Shooting is also well stocked. Bert's Garage is also well stocked with both.

I have enough until it comes back.
Don't feed me doom and gloom, cause I'm not buying it, or paying inflated prices.
