What do you recon the life is on one of these in a varmint (non competition) rifle?

It depends on when you call it shot out but I've retired a couple of barrels in that speed range at about 4K to 5k rounds. They start getting pretty hard on bullet jackets in that round count area.

The 22 PPC Case Capacity is about 35 Gr H2O . Don't know about the "short" PPC . The Case Capacity for the 223 is about 31 to 32 Gr H2O . I don't see a lot of difference . My Hart Barreled 223 ( mostly shot in Pdog Towns ) has over 10,000 Rounds thru it and is still going strong .

That would depend on how hot you load.................

The peak flame temperature is just reaching the melting point of modern barrel steels at approximately 43,000 cup or 46,000 psi.

The higher the pressure the more erosion you will have, my 100 yard and under practice ammunition for my AR is loaded with 24.7 grains of H335 at approximately 45,000 psi.

Quickload tells me this load is 43,500 psi at 30.2 H2O case capacity and varries depending on case volume and is accurate enough for its purpose

I think that it is unreachable right now due to the upgrade, but this chart will at least give you a rough ranking.

You can "kill" a fine barrel quicker with a poor cleaning proceedure and lack of a boreguide than by shooting it out. Careful cleaning, keeping the barrel cool and loading to modest pressures I should think as a varminter you could expect a good long life of acceptable accuracy. How many rounds is difficult to say.

Once looked at a 6PPC with a Hawkeye at the Supershoot a few years ago and the bore condition was GHASTLY.......looked like the backside of an alligator. Owner said it was past 7500 rounds and still was shooting competitive groups. Watched him shoot during the competition and he was right, it was still a good rifle.

I would have lost money on that bet.
