22lr ammo testing

Did some ammo testing today, ran outta time to test the other 4 or 5 i didnt make it to.
Paper is 1/4" grid paper.

A couple of the ammo i tested arent made anymore, like eley team use to be a lower grade of tenex/match same line.

Team was small groups i think wind caught the first one, i accidentally fired one as marked. Sk mistol match had the overall smallest group but wasnt consistently smallest.

Was outside with very little wind, i tried to wait the breezes out.

Yes i has thrown consistently small groups with a couple different lots of center x.

I ordered a box of eley edge, eley match, and lapua pistol king to try. Bang for the buck im not finding much that will out preform sk pistol match enough to justify the price though.

I know the previous owner ran eley match, and the reamer that was used is partial to eley ammo in every barrel it has cut. Weird how i am having such good results with sk/lapua ammo.

I keep forgetting to get a box of wolf target extra to try, not sure what eley it is the same as but at 8 bucks a box could be a happy medium if its consistent.

I really want to be under 10 dollars a box.

Under $10 a box ammo shoots pretty much like under $10 should.
If you plan on going to actual BR matches to compete, you’re goin to get your butt kicked a lot.
What, if anything, do you do to your gun between all your ammo choices being shot ?

Between brands aka lubes i run a patch of cleaner through on a jag, then take a small brass brush and work it about a bit in the chamber then push it through and pull it off, then another cleaner patch on the jag, last dry patches till they come out clean usually 3 to 4. Then i count the first group as fouling and question the second group if its way to good or really bad.

My cleaning method was given to me by my friend i got the rifle from.

I know its just a damned shame to get good consistent 22 ammo cost 10 plus bucks a box.

In the pic the groups that are circled are marked as cleaning fouling, i just accidentally cut it off.

Well I asked because you seem to be just starting out, etc., etc. Lots of guys don’t realize you cannot shoot ELEY over other ammo.
That said, if you want to avoid bbl damage please don’t use a brass brush in there by spinning or reversing it, get a couple blue, hard nylon, IOSSO brushes for that.

The Lapua Center X is what your rifle seems to like best. If any level of competition is on your mind.... I'd be shooting Lapua ! Lapua is on top for Prone (sling), Smallbore F Class and Benchrest

I hate to tell you but just buying a box of black box and shooting it isn't gonna tell you anything.
Pick a press, pick several lots from that press, shoot them record good from not so good. Pick another press buy some lots shoot them and record. Pick another press ..... (most pick a press that they've heard is putting out good lotts) when you finally find done good shooting stuff buy what you can afford. 1400.00 a case.
The stuff I bought has turned on me as my barrel has changed from the first 3k rounds that have gone down the barrel. I bought 1.5 case, shot a perfect score & many 2300+ and now get lucky to NOT shoot 25's on a card. Aka getting my arse handed to me every match ..

An eley cut chamber is about length of the case. Some brands on bullets may have longer cases x .000's.

Shoot, have fun but don't fool yourself. If you don't do the homework and spend the money that gives true results you'll not be anywhere near the big dogs.

I'm no where near doing the work/spending anymore. I'm done chasing. I'll shoot my club (not doing anything there good either) but enjoying friends I've made. I like having a good laugh, shooting some really chitty scores, razzing the "lucky sobs" that shoot good !

Don't even know how to find which press and cant afford to buy more than about a brick maybe 2 at a time. I'm not looking to be a or the big dog. Just want to be mostly competitive not look like a total chump and have fun. If i had unlimited funds and time i would chase the big dogs but probably with my centerfire more so than rimfire. Although i have found rimfire may actully be tougher at 50 yard than 284 at 1k.

I feel very fortunate my rifle will shoot anything better than some will shoot the best they can find.

I have a couple of bricks of eley to sale. I've separated by weight into boxes.
115 a brick shipped.
