22K Hornet powder

I have a new question for an old cartridge. Is any body using LIL' Gun in a K with 40 gr. Is there some thing better. Thanks Mark

That seems to be the go to powder for the hornet. I just started using it and haven't had time to make an opinion of it yet. Use pistol primers for the best accuracy. Somewhere around 12-13grs wih 40gr bullets. One fellow said he had better groups with 50gr vmax. I was using 2400 with good results and 40gr vmax. hope this helps.

Yes...the logic behind the small primer is to keep the primer from moving the bullet before the powder ignites. The pros are saying the rifle primer will move the bullet before the powder starts to burn. If I can find the articule I'll send you a link to it.

i ran across the idea od using small pistol primers quite by accident. i had a friend of mine give me 10,000 federal small pistol primers he picked up at a yard sale somewere for like 50 cents. i ran out of small rifle one day and figured WTF, id give it a try. well, come to find out thats the ticket for hornet accuracy.i stack a 52gr speer hollow point on top of exactly 12gr of lilgun . shoots 1 hole groups out a ruger all weather 77/22K hornet, shot the same groups before i rechambered it to k hornet, and that was only because i like to LOOKS of the k hornet case...looks like a miniature 222)at 100 yards all day long. only complaint i have is that it burns a bit dirty, and after a range trip and 75-100 rounds, the barrels so dirty it sometimes takes an hour just to clean the crap out of the barrel, i like my barrels spotless). i occasionally deer hunt with my K Hornet, and the above load is what i use. completely devistating on deer out to 100 yards or so. killed several, and had every one of them drop like a stone at the shot without so much as a twitch.

i also use the small pistol primers in my 223 and 222 without any problems. they ignite the power absolutely perfect and i get 100% burn every shot.

Thank you. My 17 AH is on a 77/22 and has never shot very well. I'll give that a try and see what happens. The K Hornet is a CZ that I had punched out and need to get it going. Looking forward to taking the little guns to Squirrelville.

Something else ya'll might try is the Wolf SR primers. They are soft like a pistol primer & relatively mild. I am going to try the Wolf SR Mag primers in my 221 FB, another fairly small case.
