22brx - Looking for recommendations putting one together for heavy bullets

I have a 6brx and love it, and want to give the 22brx a try. I am guessing a 28" 8 twist for the Berger 90VLD, which I think is what I would like to go with. Any suggestions? Not sure of freebore necessary for the Berger 90s, would sure like a standard neck. Is a 30" barrel over kill?

Looking for any advise.

i would go with a 7" twist for the 90 berger vld. Some will say 6.5" but i disagree with that. an 8" twist will stabalize the 90 out to maybe 500 yards, but after that, you are bound to see excessive vertical.

Thank you for that great advise. I would have been so disappointed to find out I went with too slow a twist. Do you know if I should go with a 30" or a 28"?

I am just starting a build for the 22BRX to shoot the lighter weight bullets; up to 69gr Sierra MK. I have asked Tommy Shurley to be my gunsmith (recommende by Richard Franklin) for this build.
I just purchased a 'chunk' of Myrtlewood and sent it to Tommy for my stock. This gun will be built on a LowRider stock designed by Richard Franklin. I really enjoy shooting my 6SLR with this stock, so that was an easy choice. I am going with a hand-rubbed oil finsih rather than clearcoat since the clearcoat is not very forgiving. The rest of my components are:
BRUX barrel, SS, 1-10 twist rate, 218-224 bore/groove,
interrupted fluting, finished at 28 inches, w/ muzzle brake
PTG reamer .224 w .218 pilot, .060FB, .251nk
Jewell BR trigger @ 1.5oz.
BAT SV action, SS, RB/LP/RE, 1.35", Round
BAT brushed aluminum trigger guard
BAT one-piece rings and base, SS
Nightforce NSX 5.5-22x56 w/NP=2DD reticle
Pachmayer recoil pad
Graco recoil reducer

Can you tell??? I still hate recoil. I want to see every shot hit the target. I have Berger 64gr and Sierra 69gr bullets on order to try first. My current dilema is finding 22BRX dies. Anybody have any ideas where to find them?
Thanks.

The rig you just described is amazing. I have some of Richard Franklins DVDs and it would be so nice to have work done by him. Let us know how that shoots. I am leaning toward a brux barrel myself.

I was chatting with my friend PREACHER a while back and he told me how much he liked the BRUX barrels. I ordered one thinking I was going to build a 6BRX and then changed my mind. Of course, I sold the 6mm barrel to PREACHER. :)
When Richard decided to retire he sold his business to Tommy Shurley and Tommy worked with Richard for quite a while. Since Richard recommended him I thought I would give him a try. I will post results.

Barry,
I couldn't find 22BRX dies either. I just use my 6BR dies .10" up in the press. I size the bases of the cases with a 243 FL die with the guts removed. Then run them in my 6BR dies with the proper size bushing to size the neck then shoulder bump with a body die as neccesary. Get's rid of the "click" at the top of the bolt lift. Seems like a lot of steps but it really isn't that bad. I already had everything so saved me the cost of custom dies. Good luck. You will love your BRX. Mine shoots 55 grain Ballistic Tips faster than my 22-250 AI.

Thanks JL. I'm looking forward to shooting this thing. After I get some fired cases I'm going to order a set of dies from Neil Jones.
I'm really anxious to shoot the Ballistic tips in this gun and also the heavier 69gr SMK. Should shoot pretty good a the moderate distances.
Thanks again for the info.

My Pac-Nor 22-250 AI 1:8 twist will NOT stabilize the 90 Berger VLDs. I so wanted it too.... 80 VLDs and 80 SMK are good in a 1:8 twist. I would bet the 22 BRX will be similar to a 22-250AI in speeds without giving up much at all. Luck, Tim
