Just curious if anyone here is or has played with a 22BR short? I have been wanting now for a while to take a BR case and push it back .100 (at least) and see how it shoots with light bullets. I may do it with a 6mm bullet or it may be the 22cal bullet, i just dont know yet. I have asked about this a little in the past but i need some more information. How would i even push these shoulders back this far on a BR case? I currently shoot a 22ppc .100 short and making brass for that thing is easy. I assume the same would be true with the BR case. I use a 22-250 die for the ppc but i dont know what to use to push back the shoulders on the BR case? I wonder if a BR die cut off .100 would work? I also dont really know how far to push the shoulders back on a BR case to hit that so called sweet spot? Any info or discussion would be a lot of fun so please share. lee

when Jim Stekle and Mike Walker developed the BR case, a number of lengths were tried, and they settled on what is now the BR case.

to shorten only reduces the powder capacity from a case that is no where near over bore, the idea was to match or beat the PPC case and these size cases have proven to be the most accurate in the world.

Why change?

I hear what you are saying but i sure dont see to many 6BR's in the winners circle while shooting against the 6ppc. The 6ppc is the king of short range accuracy. I wouldn't even bet against a 6ppc at 300 yards either. There is something unique and special about a 6ppc. Anyway i am not making a run for the hall of fame or anything, just enjoying my life. so i guess the question is, why not try a shorter version of the BR case. Heck you never know, it might even be fun!!

There's 2 small articles from March & October 1993 Percision Shooter mag in The Benchrest Shooting Primer book page 327. They are written by Ron Roberts where he writes about his attempts to shorten the 22BR .150” into what he called the 22 Smalldog for shooting smaller match bullets.

I thought of giving the 22BR a 40 degree shoulder and shortening it just enough to get a full case of Varget for bigger bullets. But gave up on that and went with an easier to play with regular 22BR Lapua 40 degree improved instead. Sort of like a BR-DX without any change in case body angle.

I think It was a 200 short that Dick title the brat. The 6br was shorten .85 or 100 short tall dog I think ? I have a 110 short 6br from the late Jerry Johnson from Garden City, Kansas Most said he shot them very well, one of the barrels was a 125 short 6BR, Its funny I have never shot them.
