22BR Range Report

Finally got the rifle set up the way I wanted. Originally had a bench rest stock on it but switched it out for a more traditional one.

Rifle specs:

22BR caliber

Remington 40X action

Remington 40X stock with barrel tuners and accessory rail in forearm

Bartlein 1-12 twist fluted barrel finished at 26"

Jewell trigger set at 5oz.

Leupold rings

Leupold 8.5-25x50 with the varmint hunter reticle

Load data is 29.6gr. of Benchmark,Rem 7 1/2 primer,50gr. Vmax,Lapua brass.

Target pic. Top left is 3 shots measuring .430 outside to outside.( The shot 1" left of the bullseye was getting it on paper)

Center target has a 3 shot group (the enlarged hole 2 1/4" high and 1/2" right of bullseye) measures .310 outside to outside.

I think she is going to be a shooter!! ;D

"...Center target has a 3 shot group...measures .310 outside to outside."

Yes, I would agree you have a nice set-up and recipe. You're at .086" center-to-center for your three shots, which is outstanding...congrats!!

very nice set up and a shooter ! i have a 14 and a 12 twist and the 12 twist really shines with 60-64 gr bullets and slower powder...n540. i[m not sure why, but both of my 22 BRS shoot best with slower powder. lighter bullets did well, however, with faster powders, but, heavies like the slower stuff. one mistake i made was using my 6 BR body die to size and push shoulders back on the 22 BR cases. i just got a 22 BR type s fl bushing die and things are good again. are you shooting paper, varmints or both?

Thanks guys. Couldn't be happier.
The rifle will be used for ground hogs here in WV and a yearly visit to Wyoming to bust some prairie dogs.

Also "Preacher" here on the forums chambered the barrel so I think he deserves most of the credit on how accurate it is.

I personally love the appearance of the 40X in walnut. I have several and have found them all to be excellent chuck buster's. Very nice set-up, great choice in rest (love my Bald Eagle as well) and good choice in cartridge. Fine shooting. Hopefully no WV groundhogs are reading this forum, cause they will up and move! ;D

Carry on!
