22br improved

ANY done a .22BRX or similar.just trolled through a few pages but didnt find any info.
im looking to re barrel a .22br soon but just wondered if "improved" is worth the effort.i read good reports on the 6br "improved"versions.
your input please gentleman.

James Phillips told me that the 22 Dasher was as bad on barrels as a 22-250, so just be aware of the short barrel life.

after shooting my 6 BRX and seeing what it could do, i opted for a 22 BRX. ordered my own reamer from pt&g, kreiger 9 twist, custom action, jewell trigger and...where is consistent accuracy? velocity gains were minimal. started by jumping bullets with one hole one day and not the next. my 22 brs shoot one hoe all day long, so i didn't feel the problem was me. changed powders and jammed bullets and, again, good, then bad. borescoped and, yes, a barrel burner, just like my 22-250s. my barrel might be the problem...copper fouls like a factory gun! thought about trying another barrel, but not worth the risk, plus the barrel burner aspect of this small bore burning a lot of powder will still be there. the 6 BRX has a larger bore to burn it's powder and i see very little damage. my 14 twist 22 BR now pushes a 52 gr fowler at 3700+fps and my 12 twist shoots 64 bergers at 3400+ and the 8 twist loves 77 smks at 3150 fps, so i can't find a good reason for trying another 22 BRX project.

Thanks guys-LPREDDICK- you answered my next question -re- barrel life i thought that would be the down side to "improved"i think i will keep to standard=.22br maybe with a fast twist barrel.

why do i keep a detailed log book on each rifle i own? i was initially disappointed in my 22 BRX mainly because when i had it built i was planning on it shooting 69 gr bullets at 3500+fps. the only barrel i could find was a kreiger 9 twist and i wanted one a bit slower. i couldn't wait and went with the 9 twist and proceeded to try and make it shoot the 69s. one day it would and another ??? finally tried heavier bullets and the 73 and 75 bergers both started shooting small holes. the velocities were less than the 3500 i wanted. a lot of testing and the throat was taking a beating and copper fouling like crazy. a patch pushed thru the first few inches felt like sandpaper. i was ready to replace the barrel until i read about a product called "snipex". it is a ceramic like paste that you coat the bore and bullet and shoot 20-40 rounds and the stuff supposedly fills the cracks and pits, and is "cured" by the heat and pressure. it does nothing to the smooth portion of the bore. nothing to lose, so i tried it. WOW!!! the first few inches of the bore are as smooth as, yes, glass! borescoping tells it all...the throat and beyond are very glass-like...shiney. 12 in out and the bore looks normal. loaded some 73 bergers with n540, 20 thous into the lands and SHAZAM 4 shots and the hole didn't enlarge. the 5th shot darkened the edge of the hole! cleaned the barrel and it is SLICK. repeated the 73s yesterday and a small hole and same poi as before and velocity is 3418 fps! witchcraft? snake oil? magic? dumb luck? don't know and don't care! this thing is shooting like a laser and i am happy. snipex product literature says to expect 2000+ good rounds after coating, so we'll see...may have to coat the old 22-250s sandpaper throat.

Hi guys...I don't have near the experience some of you others have but some for sure over 40 years of shooting and reloading. I have come to believe that "balance" of powder charge or powder capicity in a cartridge is very important. Many think that speed speed and more speed is better. I have come to disagree at least at the present state of shooting technology. More powder capacity does give more speed but at what cost? Certainly less barrel life but beyond that it seems to get more difficult to find an accuracy node beyond a certain point in a given caliber and bullet weight and more recoil does not help either in the quest for accuracy, even if it is slightly more and seemingly unnoticable, its still there.
Just my opinion and I welcome other points of view but I'd stick with the standard 22BR.
