Cannot find a 22BR modified case for the Hornady/Stoney-Point COAL gauge, and, I don't have two fired cases I can send to Hornady. Any suggestions?
I know this is an old thread but who has a 22br modified case? text me 318-453-6481You only need one but I usually send two, just in case.Check your PMs,Mike.
A 9/32 drill & 5/16x36 tap will do it if you can hold it straight.I know this is an old thread but who has a 22br modified case? text me
Yup. Sorry about the fat finger or whatever it was. Corrected my post. It's 5/16-36.
I make my own cases. Use a fired case, but it MUST be full length sized. Pretty much everything I shoot, I have Redding FL bushing dies, I don't run expander balls either.
-On the die that has been set up for the correct shoulder bump, I'll pull the stem and remove the bushing.
-Lube the decapped case, and run it up into the die.
-With the case still 'up', remove the shell holder.
-Unthread the die.
-Chuck the die in a lathe and drill a 9/32 hole.
-Using a guided tap handle, tap the hole 5/16"-36 TPI
-Thread the die back into the press.
-Insert the shellholder.
-Extract the case.
-Clean/polish/chamfer
This method allows you to chuck the die into the lathe, without trying to grab a tapered, squishy brass case and get it distorted. If you're ever got a case stuck in a die, you know that it's held well for the minimal amount of torque that drilling and tapping exerts on the case.
If you don't have bushing dies that you can remove the bushing, and are using a FL die, you'll just need a correctly sized mandrel to open up the neck so the bullet moves free.
