224 Weatherby

Hi,
I have a chance to pick up a little used custom 224 Weatherby just wondering if anyone has wildcatted of this cartridge I was thinking a 20-244 WBY

I was thinking the same thing but only with a fast twist 1-8 barrel. But you must remember, 224 Weatherby brass has a bolt face size that is somewhere between a 223 and a 243. I believe most .224 Weatherbys were also
built on a 1-14 twist barrel. Also you must remember that it uses a large primer which could hinder accuracy slightly. And 224 brass I becoming as rare as chicken teeth. I would stick with a 22BR. IMHO.

My brother inherited a .244 Weatherby rifle, which he uses shooting prairie dogs. I was talking with him about my enjoyment of F-Class. He replied that he had never shot 600 yards and was wondering how the Weatherby would do. I was aghast at the idea, since as I understand, the Weatherbys were all fitted with a 1:12-1:14 twist barrel and couldn't stabilize a bullet of more than about 55 gn. Don't even think about an 80 gn VLD. I wonder if there is a bullet this rifle will stabilize that will hold up at 600 yards?
