224 Weatherby Mark V coming soon

For anyone interested in the 224 Weatherby Mark V hunting rifle you are in luck. The NEW Mark V Varmint Master will be hitting the market very soon. It will have an 8-twist barrel for slinging heavy bullets. This configuration should be very good as a coyote rig.

The only thing I would say is, the Mark V is a lot of action for a 224 anything. I am a big fan of the Weatherby line, but I would like to see something on the lines of the Howa mini action. Especially for coyotes, a quick handling rifle. I like to call coyotes, so a heavy for caliber bullet doesn't interest me.

I have a Mark V Super Varmint Master in 223 Rem which was discontinue several years ago, maybe because it was so expensive. I paid $1,500 back in 2009. This rifle has a heavy contour 26" barrel, fluted, 12" twist. It really isn't that bad to tote in the field with a flex sling like Uncle Mike's.

I will say out of the box with nothing more than a trigger adjustment to 2 1/2 lbs. the rifle shot sub 1/2 moa groups with 50 and 55 Nosler BT's and Varget. I currently have 2,198 rounds though it and while the groups have opened up a bit to about the .5 and .6's, it is still a very effective varmint rifle out to 300 yards. To date I have taken 356 groundhogs with it.

Depending on costs which Weatherby's tend to be a bit salty in the price department, I would take a hard look at Tikka before I laid the money down for a Weatherby. My Tikka's leave nothing to be desired.

Interesting, I’ve got the OG 224 varmintmaster made in Germany. Unique case, like a 22-250 with double radius and belt. Odd case head diameter too

The new Varmint Master has a mini six lug action and sporter weight barrel. It will come threaded and will be high gloss. I saw one last week at a dealer show. Decent wood.
