224 Valkyrie. v. 6.5x47L v. 6x47L

Sixgun

The Millbastard
I'm intrigued by the 224 Valkyrie ..but I just got my 6.5x47L that I'm fine tuning my load for. I wonder if the 6x47L is a happy medium..for another rifle? What do you guys think?

I just built a 308/ 224 valk switch rifle. I also own a 6.5x47. I only shot a few rounds of 308 and have not put the 224 barrel on yet. My Cooper 6.5x47 is insane, going to be hard to beat. I guess it really depends on your use.

6.5X47 IS A FINE CARTRIDGE AND LIKE DAN SAID HARD TO BEAT ITS HOLDS IT ON GROUND AGAINST THE OTHER 2 ROUNDS BUT EACH ROUND HAVE THEIR ON PURPOSE

...the Valkyrie would be for a bolt gun of course.

Well the 224V has the barrel life department sowed up by about twice and a .55-ish G1 BC 88-90 grain bullet at 2800 fps isn't too bad at all.

Bullets are cheaper, and so is the 26-27 grains of powder per case, as well as brass.

Also in a bolt rifle, and assuming one wants to reload to 2.5" OACL, you could probably add 100 fps to the equation.

Heavy rifle + muzzle brake, now were talking a sweet heart to shoot! Half the recoil of 6x47L???

Jury is still out as far as accuracy potential of 224V.

As much as I love 6x47L the barrel life isn't but 1500 rounds or so and that is stretching it.

Not looking so bad now is it?!

For a bolt gun, the 223 AI is a better choice than the Val.

The 6.5x47 Lapua will be shinning bright when the Val has been long dead.

Except that FFing is required and then to be apples to apples you'd need 224V AI to compare it 223AI.

I have a single shot 223AI bolt rifle and it's dandy at 2.614 OACL with 88's... but if I wanted a repeater with heavy bullets in mind to be shot out of the new 224V AICS mags the 224V does have an advantage because it's a shorter case and proper OACL with long bullets fit well in such a magazine.
