224 Valkyrie round two

My first attempt at shooting the 224 Valkyrie cartridge was not the best, It was a bolt action with a 24” light varmint barrel with a 1:6.5 twist. I tried several different load and bullet combos, but none of them worked out that good. The best group was .80 moa with a 77 Sierra tipped matchking. Most all other were well over 1”.
Not willing to give up on the caliber, I have re-barreled a Savage target action with a Shilen select match barrel, 1:6.5 twist again and a new H&S precision stock. I want to shoot the 80-90 grain bullets. I will take it out for it first shots tomorrow afternoon and see what she will do.

Well I can say I am more than impressed with my new Shilen select match barrel in 224 Valkyrie. I went out to the range yesterday to get the barrel broken in and to see how it would perform. Below is a picture of a three shot group at 100 yards. I just cannot believe it. Shooting 90 grain Sierra MatchKings and barrel is a 1:6.5 twist.

I have Hart 6 twist on my Savage. When I started shooting and loading for the Valk I was pretty frustrated. Now it's my favorite. CFE 223 behind the 90gr Berger VLD. Great combo.

I know what you are saying.....CFE 223 and the Sierra 90 gr MatchKings in my rifle and I’m getting 5 shot groups under .2 moa.

I tried de priming one that I picked up at the range with a Lee de capping die. It just pushed the rod up. That is why I am asking.

The valkyrie has been a challenging caliber but my best load with sierra 90mk has been 26.9 h4350 set to 2.275 in my rainier arms ultra match 24" 1-7.5 twist AR barrel . Also 27.0 h4350 behind both nosler 85 and berger 85.5 have done very well .
