224 Valkyrie Project

garandman

Bolt Gun Bodacious
While I'm waiting on my barrelled action (Bighorn Origin / Trigger Tech / 24" barrel in FDE / Athlon Ares scope) from Southern Precision, I decided to get going on other fronts - Cerakoting the stock and adapting an MPA grip.

I used C- series air dry cerakote, in a camo pattern and modded the grip to fit my XLR chassis.

Pics thus far:

loaded up a bunch of 80.5 & 85.5 Bergers, both testing seating depth and a "ladder test" of incremental powder charges.

Berger recommended testing seating depth first, starting at the lands with the 80.5s and 15 off with the 85.5s.

For my 224Valkyrie. Will pull trigger this Monday.

whats new ?
you have at least gone with a proper bbl length
what distance are you testing at.

100 yards.

Not sure how to answer the "what's new?" part....

I first tested length to ogive using 26.0 gr CFE. Powder range per Berger is 25.0 - 27.0 gr. Both 5 and 10 thou off produced 0.50" groups at 100 yds.

Then did 0.2gr powder increments from 26.0 to 27.0 (max)

Groups were from 0.75 - 1.5" Wind was hellacious, so that mighta been part of it.
