.224 bullet holes at 600 yd high power target

Looking for the least expensive scope to resolve .224 holes in a high power target at 600 yds consistantly. I need to see them in the black mostly and in the white also until sight adjustments are made, or if my father-in-law is shooting.;)

Under all conditions? They don't make one.

Try using Shoot-N-C target centers. They have a 12" bullseye version that should work for you. Get a pack of Shoot-N-C pasters and you can keep shooting each bull until the pasters fall off or you can't see the lines anymore ;)

You wont see them in the black. And only in the white under good-ideal conditions.

NF BR 42x is about it in the normal realm

40 or 45x leupy maybe...

a 36x might work

YMMV,

Thats what I figured, thats why I am building a pit with 2 target carriers. I am definately going to have 200,300, and 600 yd firing points, and hopefully a 1000 yd firing point also.
Me and my father-in-law are going to start on our personal practice range this coming weekend. It will be nice to finally have my own across the course practice range. Maybe now I can start back into highpower and get that highmaster card.
Thanks everyone for the comments, and I am glad I found this site.

Build your target frames out of 2x4s on edge. As if your were building a window box. Staple the target on the front of the window. Staple a white garbage bag on the back side. Use only one ply or side of the bag. You want the light to pass through as much as poss. This will give a 2" space between the target and the bag. With just a little sun, your holes in the black will now show up as bright white dots. The bag can be used over and over. I use a 24 scope and .224 holes show just fine. This will help you "Become One With The Ten"

just another thought...you could also rig up one of those cameras to show you your target at that distance...some one on here a while back had plans for building one really cheap

Shooting my Savage LRPV 223 with Weaver 36 at 400 the other day. Put up two targets: a ShootNSee; and a 15"x24" plain white paper with six 1 1/4" round orange pasties on it. I could see bullet holes much better on the white backer. Not impressed with ShootNSee. Maybe OK for short range.

The inexpensive scope you want doesn't exist. I have several NF's and a March 10-60. Sometimes when conditions are great, I can see bullet holes, but wind and mirage make it impossible.

JohnM: You can buy some of the most expensive spotting scopes out there, (Nikon Fieldscope ED glass, 82mm objective, 25-75x eyepiece, at a cost of $1200, for example), and if the mirage is bad enough you will not see 22 cal. holes in the white, at as close as 400 yards. Forget about 5 & 600 or in the black.

Mirage will wipe out optics, no matter what the cost.

Buy the best you can afford, when spotting your shots is critical, like when sighting-in, do it in the very early morning or on an overcast day, when mirage will be non-existant or minimal. Or, be prepared to do a lot of driving back and forth to the target, if range conditions permit. I do use the Shoot-N-See splatter targets when mirage is a problem & they do help me, but they can also be wiped out by mirage.
