.224" across the course bullets ?

What's the scoop here guys? If I grab a good 1:8 twist AR-15 in .223... Which bullets should I run for 200, 300 & 600 yard across-the-course competition?

Yeah - I'm a .30 cal dinosaur considering a move into the black rifle fold...

Thanks, Guy

I'd recommend the Hornady 75 gr HPBT at the short lines and the 75 gr A-max at 500-1000. They're great bullets at a good price. The A-Max may not stabilize well from a 1:8 on cold days; I use a 1:7. VV N-550 will give the maximum velocity at sane pressures for 800-1000,and works best with WSR primers. A less expensive alternative for 100-600 is RL-15; it will even work at 800-900,but runs out of steam at 1000. Welcome to the club.

Sierra 77's for the short line, Sierra 80's or Berger 80.5's or the Nosler 80's for 600. Varget powder. Wolf or Tula primers.

Froggy's got it, 77s for the short lines, and something a bit heavier for the 600. The Lapua 77s run the best BC of the field, and shoot very well, this being a distinctly biased and blatantly slanted opinion! That said, I'm shooting Berger 82s for the 600.

I shot the 80gr amax last year at 600yd. This year I found 1000 80gr nosler's on sale on seem to shoot a little better in my rifle. 1-7" Krieger barrel. 69gr smk at 200 & 300. Good luck.

Absolutely can not go wrong with 77 gr SMK for 200, 300 and 80gr SMK's for 600 yards. RE-15 and Varget are the most commonly used powders, VV works great too.

77 SMK's have done well at 100/200/300/500 & 600 yards for me in both the 1-8 & 1-7.7 twist barrels. 75 HBTHP have too but I felt the 77 SMK were a tad better.

HTH,
