I am looking to add a 223AI barrel to my Savage LRPV. I want a 7 or 8 tw to shoot heavy bullets. What tw is best 7 or 8. I have a factory 9 tw 223 now. How well will the 7 or 8 shoot the 50 gr bullets also.

Mark - some of the 50 gr bullets won't hold together in the 8 and faster twist barrels.

8 twist will stabilize an 80 gr AMax.

Your 9 twist will stabilize 75 gr AMax's as well.

My 1-8 twist varmint rifle shoots the 50 grain Vmax and Ballistic Tip bullets very well. I have never had issues with any plastic tipped bullet coming apart even in a 1-7 twist gun. Stay away from Hornady SX and Sierra Blitz with the faster twist barrels, those have left a gray mist trail behind them and never made it to the target. In slower twist barrels the SX & Blitz are excellent bullets.

I have a 1 in 9 twist set up to shoot the 75gr Amax. I've shot it out to 900 yards with ease. If I had to do over I would have went with the 1 in 8 twist only so I could bump up to the 80gr Amaxs. As far as the 1 in 7 twist if you not looking to shoot the 90gr VLDs I really don't see the need speacially if you are gonna go as low as the 50 grainers at time.

52gr A-max's are awesome and seem to be a go to bullet for the 22-250. I bet they do great. Fast twist will cost you a little bit of speed but will make up for it when it gets to the target spinning much faster (explosive).
