.223AI in a 12 twist

anybody shooting light varmint bullets with this setup? 50s,53s,55s? What velocities are you seeing? Barrel length? Any experience with this setup is welcome! Thanks

I built a Savage with a Shilen barrel, 12 twist. I like the Hornady 53 v-max with X-Terminator powder. 3500 fps with a 26".

I liked the 40 gr weight in mine. Great prairie dog rifle to play with. Krieger 1x12 twist barrel. Liked it so much I build my trainer rifle in 1x8 twist shooting 77 grain pills.

I have 2, but they are 8 and 9.5 twist. With 50 gr vmax for fire forming I'm @ 3400 and very accurate. Once I have brass formed I load the 53's with 8208 and am getting 3500 with no pressure signs. I was getting more velocity but lost some accuracy. Both are 24" barrels.

I like the 40 grain Vmax in my 223 AI......but it's a 9 twist. The RPM's make for explosive bullets
