223AI Chamber/Throat Question

Until yesterday, it was just study, but as the parts have been shipped, now my question is more real to me. What is the better freebore for a 223AI using heavier bullets (75 grain Amax, 75 grain VLD, possibly 80 grain VLD).

Here are my specifics:
Stiller TAC30
Bartlein 1×7" RV
PT&G Stealth with Accurate Mag 223 magazine

I have 2.5" to play with using this magazine, but I don't want to run out of space. I've had more luck jamming VLD's than jumping, and while I can always single load, if I have a magazine I do want to use it. I know many have good luck jumping VLD bullets, but I don't want to limit myself.

Here is what I've done per the request of the builder. I've loaded 2 dummies seating the 75 Amax to where the base of the ogive is at the neck/shoulder junction. Those dummies are very near 2.5". If donuts are an issue with this caliber, I can always turn into the shoulder.

What do you suggest as far as freebore for this caliber using the bullets listed. I know quite a few use them in this caliber here.

Thanks

Somewhere between .070 and .080 freebore should work great with the 75 Amax.

As Phil mentioned, a freebore spec between .070 and .080 is perfect for 75 A-Max. My sons .223AI has .100 freebore. That is good for 80 class bullets. We do shoot 75's in his rifle and there is no issue.

It has already been chambered. The reamer used had zero throat/freebore so a throater was used for a .070" freebore. The dummies I sent (described in my OP) ended up being on jam @ .080" throat/freebore.

I was pleased to have received a phone call last evening from the shop asking about the throat before they finished it (is had mentioned in my work order that I may use 65 grain SMK's also as I have about a 1000 of them). The only thing left to do today will be to thread the muzzle and blend the Harrell brake and thread protector.

As the box of parts was shipped last Saturday and it will be finished today, call it a 10 day turn around. Not bad at all. As the shop doing the work has a very good reputation making accurate rifles, I don't doubt I'll have a nice new toy for next weekend.
