223AI AR15

I have a 223 Wylde 24" bull barrel 1-8 twist (lilja) - I want to make this into a 100-300 yard bench gun. The receiver is a Precision Arms Equinox II, Rock River lower - any suggestion as to loads, equipment etc.. I am thinking about making it a 223AI. Do think it could be used in a 1000 yard milk jug challenge.

You might try Bergers 85.5 grain bullet, it should make 1k with some judicious load development.

I have a 24" McGowen barreled AR15 in 223AI that has rung steel consistently at 1000 using Berger 77gr OTM, and Berger 80 VLDs.
Two things: I am at 3100ish fps, using Starline cases and I have no pressure signs. I am at 6500 feet with low humidity.

Do you have any problems with the ackley case feeding in the AR platform? I have 24 inch 12 twist 223 I was thinking about reaming to Ackley just was'nt sure about how it would feed. I have have 2 , 223 AI's in bolt guns i really like them. One 12 twist shooting 53g Vmax and 1 8 twist shooting 75g Elds.

I have yet to have a single failure to feed, my bore count on the current build is 5532. The internet insists that Ackley cases don't feed from magazines, but it hasn't happened to me.
The worst issue I have experienced is dented shoulders from hitting the deflector, a patch of velcro fixed that.

Which powder/powders are you seeing the most success with your current barrel?

What all powders have you tried?

I have used Varget, H4895, CFE223, RL15, and VV140. I managed to get sub MOA with all of them, Varget being the best.
Due to the drought I am using CFE223. I shoot around 0.3MOA from a bipod and bag.

I was also using a 26" 9T-Hart barrelled 223AI and LOVE it! No feeding problems as long as it's kept clean and lubed some. I used mostly the 60 and 69 TMKs, and a VLD magazine for the 69's. Varget has been the best in mine also. I really didn't do enough accuracy comparison between the 60 and 69, since I'm a hunter and not just a bench shooter, but I did shoot a 300 yard 3-shot group less than an inch...the one time I tried it. I quit using it for coyotes as it's too heavy to carry 5-8 miles a day hunting, and have now switched to specialty pistols since they are way more portable.
