223 wylde

I have a side charged OPS-4 receiver from LAR. Great product and good service.

No information on LAR, but I have experience with Wylde .223 chambers.

The Wylde chamber is commonly (and very successfully) used by "across the course" highpower competitors. It has a relatively long throat, so it will handle the heavier bullets (80-grain Sierra, Berger and Hornady bullets) used for the 600-yard stage of this course of fire. Unlike some shorter .223 chambers, it also is safe for the higher-pressure .223 NATO rounds. The body dimensions are generous, so the chamber is reliable in semi-automatic rifles.

The Wylde chamber also has a shallow leade angle, and this is thought to be the reason that it works well (excellent accuracy) when there is a long "jump" to the lands. This occurs when loading the bullets to magazine length in the AR, or when there is substantial throat erosion after many rounds fired in the barrel.

Here is a link to information on a few .223 chambers, including the Wylde:

Thank you Randy, excellent information! It puts my mind at ease a little to know that its not just a sales gimmeck. I like the looks of their ops 4 precision but I havn't been able to get a hold of one and have not found any accuracy data. I plan to use it for 400yd target and varmit shooting if it works out.

I have a Rock River AR-15 witht he wylde chamber. I dont know that much about this chambering, but I have not had one problem with my reloads from jamming, or chambering. This rifle has a match trigger on it, that came from Rock River like that. At 100 yards this rifle will constattly produce sub one inch groups. After 10 shots, you basically cant see where you next shot went. This may be the rifle, or possibly the chambering, or a combination of both. I do know this...The Rock River rifle is one of the finest. The price was very reasonable, and the accuracy is superb...

My buddy is a gunsmith and purchased 3 of their side charger uppers for projects. They look awesome and one of them worked right. There was a problem with the tolerance on the chrome between bolt and carrier and don't cycle. I opted to make my own side charger after that.
