223 scope base ?

Using a 223 would you need 20 MOA bases for getting to 600 yards possibly 1000 yards with a Nightforce 12x42 NXS scope?

For practical purposes, yes. You would need a 20 MOA or steeper rail at 1000 yards but not 600 yard. My AR shooting 80gr bergers drops a full 15 MOA from a 100 yard zero at 600 yards and 36 MOA at 1000. It never hurts to have more elevation IMHO.

It depends on whether or not you are at the bottom of the vertical when you are shooting shorter distances.

rmist, the 12-42x56 NXS has only about 23 moa of elevation. Running a 223, you may want to get a 30moa rail for a 1000 if you want to have a 100 yard zero.
