223 rem. load

Duke
Seems like I am all over the place in this 6mmBR Web but I like your question. I make it a habit to not suggest loads especially top end loads but I do recommend powders. With 75 or 80 grn bullets in a .223 you are going to struggle to keep 3000 fps velocity. Checking my Hodgdon No 27 manual the powder to work with is H4895 my old stand by powder or Varget. Either powder will give 2850 fps with an 80 grn pill and 2900 fps with an 75 grn pill. not sure about Varget but the .223 will take more powder safely. A long drop tube with a spring inside might get you over 3000 fps.
Duke do everything in moderation when loading powder. Trust but verify. That's all I got Man, hopefully some of these Readers will become Posters. I don't know it all.

Thank you for the reply! My choice of powder so far is rl-15, and with 100 yards zero it drops 13 moa at 600 yards, 75 a-max that is. No, I don't have a chronograph.

I am currently working on loads for a fast twist 223 bolt gun right now also.

So Far I have shot 80gr Match Kings 77gr Match Kings

And now have settled on the 75 gr A Max as this will be a Prairie Dog gun Mostly.

With R-15
I went from 2655 fps all the way up to 2900fps. this was into the lands on my gun with a compressed charge. it is throat ed short right now & the bullet is a fair way into the case.
The next powder I tried is AA2520--- yep that's right. It is the powder i decided on & here is why. since I have a shorter throat & have to seat the bullets in a little farther I can still get a good dense load without compressing the charge. It flows through my Harrell measure so nice, & is way faster than my electric dispenser with the same accuracy. as far as accuracy it was the same as the R-15 loads & Varget also. Primer on all loads were CCI 450 M. mostly because I wanted to use them up. Brass is Black Hills 223 Match. weight sorted with the average weight being 93.2 grains.
The two box's of A-max's I have did not have the best Extreme Spread for weight from one bullet to the next. They should be fine for 600 yards & down though. If I were to try this rifle & load at 1000 yards I would separate all bullets but for this purpose I did not.
The barrel length is 24" And 1.2" for its entire length.
I can send some pictures of groups if you would like.

Hope this helps.
Just as a Caveat, I was anti ball powder until last summer & decided to play with it a little. so far its been good.
