.223 Plastic Boxes for Long OAL.

Some of the previous threads dealt with the issue of plastic boxes being too short for long .223 cartridges. I purchased some of the newer boxes with a hinge not just the bending type attachment for the cover. They were too short to close the top. I looked on Amazon and there were some advertised from MTM that had a hing and would take an OAL of 2.65". I measured my cartridges and they would fit. I received the boxes yesterday and indeed, they did fit! Thought some of you would be interested.

Along the same lines, if you are loading mag-length 223 and don't need the extra clearance of the MTM boxes, the Cabela's ammo boxes are a good buy when they go on sale for 2.99 each. They also use actual hinges and not a bending plastic part.

I use Frankfort Arsenal boxes. They take my 223 loaded out to 2.525 with room to spare.

WRT some cooments about the live hinge that Frankfort uses. I have had some of my boxes for at least 15 years. I have never had a hinge fail

Mine are still too long for those MTM boxes. I have 8 or so which work just fine for everything other than the 90s. Mine are loaded to 2.8ish".
