223 LC brass

I'm kinda new to this, haven't reloaded in 15 or so yrs. What was the average pre scare prices for LC brass? Seems those that have it want to sell in lots of 500 or1000, is this normal or more of the gouging crap? While i'm asking..... how about powder and bullet pre scare ballpark pricing on varget or the like, and seirra or hornady 52 grs.

Not sure on the LC price. I have some LC09 that I have a great load worked up for and a lot of it. All other LC I save for blasting and varmint work.

Varget at Powder Valley was about $22 a pound and I paid $24-$26 locally. Eight pounders I paid $180 locally which is higher than PV but not after shipping and hazmat. It is know $212 locally. I can't remember on the bullets. I have bought so many 50 vmax over the years, went from $16-17 a hundred and has been climbing.

I do remember buying a box of 500 77 SMK for $75!

Now, if you have patience, some stuff is available if you get on backorder lists.
I can actually get stuff from my local dealer before PV, Brunos etc. He is getting allotments in all the time. He limits per person so I stay in his back order list and he calls me when he gets it. I have gotten Varget and primers in the last month from him.

Before the scare LC brass was about 500 for 85-89 for 500 NEW, now it is offered to me for 225 for a thousand....too rich for my budget!....SUPPLY AND DEMAND!!!

grovey,
Nothing is suddenly normal anymore. LC brass has always been good brass and like anything else related to reloading, prices have gone off the charts. Supply of much of the components necessary are gone, as are the days of wine and roses. Who knows how long this drought of powder, primers, bullet and even finished cartridges will last. Even Rimfire ammuntions has disappeared. So forget the ballpark stuff and you might consider getting what you can find. And "reasonabale" price means nothing anymore as it appears to depend on what a buyer is willing to pay. Yep the majority of the population appears to have wanted "change." And thats what they got. Everyone else got screwed, or maybe even those dreamers will have their turn shortly but don't know their number is up as well. (Sorry..now I've had my morning fix).

I found some lc brass that's once fired. one guy's is ready to load, others isn't. How much of a pain is it to deal with the military primer setup? Also i know a dealer with a hoard of powder, primers, ( 22lr's too)and i hope balls. He has treated me pretty well so far, but he will soon be selling online though. I'm sure he will sell me "some" at a decent rate, but i think he's ready to cash in like everyone else. Thanks for the info, i was just trying to get a handle on what is WAS worth.

4 months ago..once fired LC ..ready to reload..deprimed & crimp removed..fl re sized..tumbled..$67 for 500..500 hornady zmax 55 gr bullets..$57..i had primers & powder

grovey,
i have sold several thousand once fired for $75/k plus flat rate shipping. i think that is a responsible price. there are a couple of ways to get rid of the crimp and you only have to do it once ;) unless you lose the brass :o the supplies will level out eventually hang in there. For bullets take a look at noslers "varmegeddon" pills too. not too expensive in the 500 count box.
cheers,
doc

I passed on the untouched brass, and bought just 100 of the prepped stuff. Dave... i bought a NICE 223 bdl sporter that may find it's way to st thomas later in the yr IF it shoots.... I also bought a hvy bbl 22 bolt to play with and get some trigger time on the cheap. As far as the bdl, can i use a aftermarket trigger, or an rem xmark pro in the stock class? Can i replace the stock with a syn with the full alum bedding block if it's a sporter profile?

Doc, i'll keep the noslers in mind. I want some loaded in the 50 - 53 gr range to start off with. A load i can hunt with as well as punch paper.

I paid $220 for a 1000 new Lake City brass in January . Unless the government abandons the 223 , they're talking 6.8SPC or 6.5 Grendal , there won't be much surplus brass available after this buying panic . And I'm sure prices will not go down on anything when gas hits $5 plus a gallon again and stays there . I wouldn't turn down anything I could get my hands on at a decent price .

I go to a normal and honest gun store in central PA. Trop Gun Shop and the prices are still normal. The problem is reloading supplies are in high demand and hard to get, BUT at this store the prices are still normal. Last week I bought some powder, bullets and primers for my AR and the prices were still the same "old" price.

I would simply go to a good honest gun store and order what you need and wait for it to come in. (subtle hint) ;)

Hint taken,,, for now i'll just be happy to get some shells together and shoot. Although i don't think i can bring myself to use it in this stock. It doesn't have a mark on it. Thanks for all the reply's.

What I find weird is that people are actually tossing LC brass with late dates on it, once fired. Apparently there are some that haven't learned you can actually swage out that annoying primer crimp.

Over the last half dozen range trips I have collected a couple thousand pieces of LC brass with dates from 06 to 11 with the crimps intact.

All I can say is Thank You to those who don't like, or know how, to remove those crimps. I'll swage them all in a short evening. Hard to beat Free for a price 8)

I've been seeing it more offen at the scrap yard, the State, Prison andFeds. have to sell it to us but the guys that pick the gun ranges bring it in too, never see much else other than crimp primer .223 Rem./5.56 and .22lr...well they try to sneak the copper washed steel 7.62 in, but we know.

A few weeks ago I finished processing three five gallon buckets of once fired Lake City brass the "HARD" way without using the Dillon swager.

Do yourself a favor and get a good table mounted hand operated swager like the Dillon and forget using anything else.

I thought about buying new uncrimped LC brass, BUT I asked myself WHY would the government sell new cases. The answer I kept thinking of was the cases didn't pass government inspection requirements.
