223 LC Brass

Can anyone tell me good year's from not so good year's of Lake City brass? I have probably 2,000 round's of range pickup's and want to use them in my 223. Is there any particular year that is better than the rest or they all the same? The year's in my possession run from 1995 to 2012. Thank's for any info

Unless your going to shoot bench rest with them don`t worry about the year. I have shot 1/2 moa groups with mixed brass from my AR.

COhunter, I feel you on this topic. I have maybe three to four thousand pieces of 223 range brass that I have already sorted, I loose about 25% of the brass I collect. First I deprime them, if I don't feel any resistance knocking out the primer I throw it away. Second thing is to clean them so that they can be inspected for cracks or signs of stress and again toss the ones I don't like. Then I sort them by year, full length size, trim, chamfer and debur. When you find cases that you have to remove the crimp, you can almost assume they are once fired brass but all others are suspect. As far as one year being better than another I don't know but I have heard others at my range say the older brass is thicker......but they couldn't prove it. Its hard for me to say which year better because I don't load hot, I try to find that load that gives me good accuracy and then adjust the bullet depth to tune the load. Hope this helps.

Thank's for the input guy's, all the info has helped. So far most of the brass i have prepped, i have had to remove the primer crimp

I have at least 12k LC brass from the 70s-2012 and have yet to find any one year with a specific issue or any issue. I dont seperate by date, just load & shoot and as stated above still get sub moa groups, perfect fo my p-dogging out here.
