223 cases by displacement??

What do 1000 empty 223 cases look like? Will 1000 fit in a empty 1 gallon paint can? What is a good way to estimate a thousand cases? I guess I could weigh them, I have a US Postal scale, But I don't know what 1000 weigh? I have a big habit forming bag of RMR 69 grain bullets and am digging through all my sorted brass and It looks like I may have enough WCC cases to load them all in like head stamped cases.

Nope they won't, I have 500 in a box that's 6.25"x6.25"x6.25", so I don't think a full 1000 will fit a paint can

Thanks< I am deprimimg as fast as I can. Put a new motor in the CV500 Dillon tumbler , that will be my next stop.

Case weights for 223 can vary by brand, but something like Norma weighs 100 grains and LC is something like 93 grains.

If you take 93 grains x 1000 = 93,000 grains, and divide by 7000 grains/lb you get approximately 13.3 lbs
So I think the 14 lbs above is a good number since the value can range up as high as 100,000 grains and that would be 14.3 lbs.

When I get 1000 cases that are just bulk thrown into a box, the dimensions are roughly 8"x8"x6"
So that works out to about 384 cuin or roughly 1.66 Gallon.

An ammo can with 1000 bulk 5.56 M193 cartridges loose packed is roughly 6"x7"x11" (roughly 2 gallons)

See if you can find the capacity for your tumbler. The FA wet tumbler container (large version) ads state it will hold 1K 223 cases. IIRC, it is about the size of 1 1/2 gal paint cans (height) but that size is to allow the sloshing around when being rotated.

I wet tumble in a Rebel 17, and it may hold 1000 cases but I doubt that that tiny motor would turn it. I am going to look for more WCC cases I have over a gallon but not sure I have one and 2/3s gallon. It was a lot easier when I didn't sort by headstamp. Thanks everybody, lots of good answers

I have a simple solution that my buddies and I have been using for +10 years. It is a plastic 6-Quart container by Sterilite. It holds a little over 1,000 cases of 223 or 3,000 cases of 9mm. They are stackable, and we go four high (fully loaded) without any issue of plastic cracking.

Cheapest to buy off Amazon (12pak for $40).
