223 Ar15 loads with 60gr bullets.

Is there a general consensus for a preferred powder load for 60gr in ar15? I've got RL15, Varget, imr4064, AR Comp and Benchmark .

Anyone mind sharing your load info?
Thanks.

The Alliant load data shows 23.4gr for a 68gr bullet, I'd say around 23.5 is pretty comfortable for 60gr bullets. I've had good luck with AR Comp. You might want to consider Benchmark as it's a bit faster than AR Comp and better suited to that bullet weight range.

Sierra data IME is a bit hotter than almost everyone else's so DEFINITELY work from lower. Looks like 23.5 is a good starting point.

I've shot 24.6gr Benchmark in several ARs with different type 60s and all have shot very well. It's a pretty warm load so as suggested, is definatly work up to the 25gr Sierra shows.

I'll bet if you try 24.6 BM and load longest mag length possible, you'll be where you want.

Is a hotter primer(cci450) preferable or will Rem7.5 work best?
I have a couple of boxes of Wolf SRM I might try when/if my range ever opens back up.

Win 748 at, 25.7 grains with, the 60 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips or, 65 grain Sierra GK's,.. BOTH Bullets, shoot awesome, in my 1-7 TW Adams Arms 15, Piston gun ! Using, CCI sm Rifle primers and THROWN charges ! I drilled out, a custom Bushing for, my Lil' Dandy ! One load "prints" slightly Left of, the other, IIRC the Bal Tip shoot left, when the GK's are "Zeroed" ! I've successfully used, the #1375 Sierra, Varminter in my .22-250 Rem and it should be, very accurate,.. in most AR's too.

I usually run Varget in my 223 AI 26" Hart, but decided on BLC-2 for my 60 TMK coyote load, and it's been great! One of the most accurate bullets I've ever shot out of the 9T barrel.

I used Varget for 60gr VMAX and Winchester primers. Been a while since I've tested groups with it, but it worked pretty well when I worked up the load.

Howdy. I'm a new guy here from NE Kansas. I'm not a bench rest shooter and only compete in Cowboy Silhouette Matches with a .22 Marlin lever action and a Rossi .35 Mag lever gun. I do like to shoot groups at 100 to 300 yards and admire guns and loads that shoot accurately. My favorite powder for the .223 is IMR 8208 XBR. I use it in a bull barrel RRA AR-15, CMMG M4 clone, Mossberg MVP and a Savage Model 11. This stuff shoots well in all my .223's and is a joy in the powder measure. It measures very consistently.

My favorite load for 60 gr bullets:

LC09 Brass
CCI 400 Primers
Hornady 60 gr Vmax Bullets
IMR 8208 XBR 22.5 gr

Favorite load for 55 gr bullets:
LC09 Brass
CCI 400 Primers
Hornady 55 gr Vmax Bullets
IMR 8208 XBR 24.0 gr

Neither of these loads are near max, but shoot well in everything I've tried them in. When I do my part, they are half MOA loads. I haven't chronographed either load yet.

I've had good results with the 60 gr. Berger FB - Lapua brass - 25.5 gr. of Win 748 - CCI BR-4 primers with @ .010 off lands. (AS USUAL WORK UP YOUR NEW LOADS)

23.5 g ramshot Tac 69gr Nosler custom comp is my proof load when building ARs for customers.
If they won’t shoot 3/4” or less then it’s a rifle problem.
