223 Ackley Improved Load Data

I want to begin reloading some fireformed brass and wanted to see what others have experienced with reloading.. Current plans are 40 gr Vmax with 28 grs of H335. Primer ( not sure yet I have CCI 400's & BR-4 & 450's.. )
The barrel is 26" / 1:12 Twist / with "0" free bore. plan on seating bullet in lands..
Edit: Twist Added.

Mr. T, 50g with 28g is magic. You will have to bump up the load a tad with 40g, use br4's and then 450's to see what works the best.

For a "special purpose" load, use AA2015, where the accuracy node will be 4100+ with the 40g, Cabelas had 2015 last time I was there.

I seat the bullets .003 off the lands, but trial and error is always necessary.

I hope you get some chrono numbers. I know the AI’s bring up a lot of “conversation”.
What twist is your barrel?
I myself am gonna guess CFE223 will give better speed and accuracy over the H335, and I am an H335 nut, just sprinkled a spoon full in my coffee lol.

I have held off on a 223AI with a 28-30” tube.

Buddy built a 30” 20 Practical, I won’t quote his speeds as I don’t have true numbers in front of me. I will say it did what he anticipated it would, equaled most any 204 Ruger hand load with out a hassle of 204R brass. But OMG is that thing muzzle heavy!

Look forward to your results.

Twist according to the bullet weights you want to shoot, throat accordingly, you will find great success.

Using a heavy charge of TAC in my 223ai with the 50 & 55 varmint bullets. Also got good accuracy using AR Comp.
Good shooting

Work up some loads, from standard 223 R into your A.I. version with CFE 223. Think you will find better accuracy and also velocity. Use the mag version primers.

I'm using CFE 223 and 53G Vmax in my 12 twist 223 AI. Cci 400s. Velocity is running 3550. Shoots 3/4 to 1/2 moa out to 200 yds. Devastating on Prarie dogs out to 300.
It's a great round I have another with an 8 tw shooting 75g Vmax just over 3000fps with RL-15. Probably my favorite rifle for Pds.

As with 223, multiple powder/primer/bullet combinations work rather well.

As BR4's or other Match primers carry a premium (does not mean they shoot better), I run CCI450's in all loads.

The extra 100 to 180 fps really changes things up a bit.

THE best part, brass trimming becomes almost a thing of the past. Neck and go after your trim after fireforming.

Don't shoot brass/powder/components to fireform either. Parent cartridge is very accurate when fireforming as well.

I’ll second the part about fire form loads. Sometimes I even wonder if they are not even better????
